The MHDC South El Monte Home Rescue Fair held on
December 5, 2009 was a big success. "Helping
over 239 families on a one on one basis with
professional legal and home counseling is a
testament to the level of commitment our industry
has to our community" said Robert Monzon Board
President of the Montebello Housing Development
Corporation. Banking representatives from Bank
of America and Chase Bank also joined those
providing assistance. The National Alliance
for Home preservation included Bank of America, the
National Council of La Raza and others who partnered
with MHDC to put the event together. |

President of MHDC Robert Monzon and Loan Program
Coordinator Vera Morales join Congressman Javier
Becerra and NCLR President Janet Murguia in
Washington D.C. for the NCLR National Federal
Advocacy Day. President Murguia shares the
NCLR National Agenda and speaks to the housing
crisis and how agencies such as the Montebello
Housing Development Corporation are helping those
that may lose their homes due to foreclosure deal
with their lenders and find ways to stabilize their
financial situation and either modify their loans or
refinance them. "The crisis is overwhelming
with so many people finding themselves in default"
said Robert Monzon. |

MHDC sent President Robert Monzon and four staff
members to the 2008 NCLR Conference in San Diego to
help commemorate NCLR's 40 years of impact and
influence in the Latino community. NCLR Annual
Conference, representing the largest and most
important gathering of the nation’s most influential
individuals, organizations, institutions, and
companies working with the Hispanic community. The
Conference has grown providing a forum for people in
the business of social change to learn about ongoing
and emerging issues in the Hispanic community,
connect with key community leaders, and generate
partnerships with Hispanic community-based
organizations. |

As
part of a national program to support the cause of
affordable housing in the Hispanic community, Moen
Incorporated donated kitchen and bathroom fixtures
to Montebello Housing Development Corporation (MHDC)
to be used in its Bella Monte homes development.
Moen representatives made the donation July 8 at the
site of the six homes currently under construction
on South Third Street in Montebello. "Moen is
looking to develop long term relationships with
organizations that have a positive image in the
community such as MHDC."

Montebello Housing Development Corporation was proud
to participate and help sponsor the recent Juan
Sanchez Adobe Museum Fandango on July 28, 2008.
This event was held to provide awareness of the
Juan Sanchez Adobe Museum and unite the community
through celebration and festivities. Many traveled
from far and wide to participate in the festivities
along with many local residents of all ages to
celebrate. The 1800's were well represented
with a collaboration of beautiful art pieces,
exquisite clothing and even traditional dancers. MHDC
was represented by Outreach Coordinator Vera Morales
who commented that "This historical treasure must
always be remembered". |

Robert Monzon and Marie Lugo of MHDC recently
attended the Friends of the Library
Scholarship Awards event. The event was held
at the Montebello Library, where Ruben and Mary Beas
hosted the event and awarded thirteen scholarships
to students from Vail, Montebello, Schurr, and
Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary High Schools.
The student stories were emotional and enlightening,
everyone enjoyed the presentations. In
attendance was Hector Chacon, and Gerri Guzman
School Board Members, and City of Montebello Mayor
Bill Molinari. |

The Montebello Housing Development Corporations
Development Project in Montebello is coming along
well. The Bella Monte Homes project a six
single family home development project is well on
it's way to completion by late 2008. If you or
someone you know is looking to purchase a new home

Montebello Rotary Club, Montebello Historical
Society, and the Montebello Housing Development
Corporation partner up with local community members
and High School Interact Club volunteers to clean up
the Adobe Museum in Montebello. Groups gather
to prepare the oldest structure in Montebello for
two upcoming events. Next week the Montebello
Rotary will be hosting Rotary Delegates from around
the world at the Adobe House, and June 28, 2008 the
Montebello Historical Society is hosting a 200th
Birthday Party for Juan Sanchez. |

A workshop on Foreclosure Prevention was held at the
Montebello / Commerce YMCA. Counselors and
partners presented information on how to prevent
foreclosure and were available for several hours to
assist attendees with their particular case.
Attendees, were treated to information about
preventing and protecting themselves from
foreclosure. |

President Robert Monzon recently attended NCLR's
California Advocacy Day in Sacramento. The
event was co-sponsored by the California Association
of Bilingual Educators CABE. Mr. Monzon made a
presentation to other affiliates about the do's and
don'ts of advocacy for not for profit organizations.
Assemblyman Joe Coto Chair of the California
Hispanic Caucus also made a presentation to the
delegation of over 60 from over 20 organizations
statewide. Senator Ducheny briefed the group on the
budget situation and ideas on how to balance the
budget. |

NCLR recently hosted three events in Washington DC,
including the National Housing Network Conference,
the new NCLR Building Dedication and opening of the
Affiliates Plaza and the Annual NCLR Capital Awards
Gala. In attendance was Loan Counselor Luz
Gomez of MHDC. President Robert Monzon
highlights in the picture to your right the
Montebello Housing Development Corporation name to
be permanently installed at the Plaza of the
Affiliates at the NCLR Building in Washington DC. |
